Elliott Cheu

Dr. Elliott Cheu, a University Distinguished Professor of Physics, was appointed Interim Chief Information Officer at the University of Arizona, effective January 6. An accomplished scientist and educator, Dr. Cheu has built a reputation as a dedicated university colleague, having previously served in key leadership roles, including Interim Senior Vice President for Research and Innovation.

 In this role, Dr. Cheu leads University Information Technology Services (UITS), overseeing initiatives such as high-performance computing, modernization of financial and HR systems, and enhancing campus-wide IT coordination. With his deep understanding of the university’s research community, commitment to student success, and proven ability to address complex challenges, Dr. Cheu is well-prepared to guide the division during this transitional period.

 Dr. Cheu’s interim appointment will continue until a permanent CIO is identified, as the university begins a national search for the role.
